BACKGROUND
Rugby Union in Lebanon has been played since the inception of the Beirut Phoenicians Rugby Union Club in 1995. This was due to the request of the British Consulate to play visiting teams from British Warships. The Beirut Phoenicians represented Lebanon as the only Rugby Union Club in both locally played matches and International tournaments against other club and national teams for a number of years until the formation of the Lebanese Rugby Union Federation.

ABOUT LEBANON RUGBY
Lebanon Rugby is the governing body of Rugby Union in Lebanon. In 2009, the Lebanese Rugby Union Federation (known as Lebanon Rugby) was established and achieved membership of the Asian Rugby Union Federation. The Lebanese Rugby Union Federation is a Full Member of the Asia Rugby Football Union (ARFU) and an Associate Member of World Rugby. Through the continued efforts of Lebanon Rugby and the hard work of its stakeholders, Rugby Union in Lebanon is becoming a popular sport and played by male and female players of all ages. The success of the Phoenix (The Lebanese Rugby Union National Team) on the international stage and particularly in Asia, has served as a major push for player recruitment at both senior and grassroots levels. The inclusion of Rugby Sevens as an Olympic sport served as a major push for the sport in Lebanon and in the Middle East.
